Summer 2026 Updates

This morning and afternoon, we dedicated three Pomeroy Foundation Patriot Burial marker signs. It was a busy morning, followed by a nice meal and program by Tasha Molner of the Ontario Chapter DAR at Half-Shire.  The three SAR men present met informally in the Pomeroy Research room afterward and spoke with Tom Henry by phone about future events.

 Here is a synopsis:

At 9am in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Village of Parish, we noted the burials of two men and a cenotaph for one. 33 were present, including the Village Mayor, and some town and village officials, as well as members of the cemetery board.  The DAR members, along with the SAR, participated in a brief program.  Eleven-year-old Jasper Molner revealed the plaque, dressed as George Washington, and a short ceremony of readings followed.

At 10am, 15 minutes away, another marker was dedicated at Arthur Cemetery, north of Mexico, for two patriots.   The ceremony was the same, and we had about 20 people, including officials from the village and town of Mexico.  Jasper/George again revealed the plaque, and a short ceremony of readings followed.

At 11am for the dedication of Rufus Price's sign in Sand Hill Cemetery, Town of Richland, we welcomed 5x great-grandson, Assemblyman Will Barclay, and his mother, Sara "Dee Dee" Barclay, and 5x great-granddaughter Margaret Weigel.   There were three of us, from the SAR, and about nine from the DAR.  Nobody from the Town of Richland.   Following a brief program by The DAR and reading of the message from the Pomeroy Foundation, and a few words on Col. Price, Assemblyman Barclay unveiled the sign.

We have a new YouTube channel, and our first Half-Shire Video Story has been posted. Please be sure to like and subscribe to the channel, share videos and encourage other neighbors and friends to subscribe to the channel as well!

At Half-Shire in Richland about 22 enjoyed a chicken and biscuit lunch with salads, and Tash Molner, Ontario Regent spoke on the CAR (Children of the Revolution) Chapter being re-formed in Watertown.

As part of the American 250th the Syracuse SAR and the Ontario Chapter of the DAR are teaming up with Half-Shire Historical Society to not only plan and execute there events, but thoroughly research each patriot.  The booklet you see here, which was handed out,  has seven draft biographies of the veterans we honored today.   These bios are a true "work in progress, with only Col Price pretty well done.

The DAR and SAR Chapters discussed upcoming events, and we have the following events coming up for your consideration as members:

There is a tentative plan for a trip in early December to Auburn to Seward House, which will be followed by lunch. I will be sending out a survey to plan for 2027.    We need input to provide interesting and relevant events and activities for our members, to inspire attendance.

There are many things going on as part of the 25th this year, and through 2033!
